The Scrolls of Wind and Clouds - Prologue
※Kazaki-dono(Shinobu's appellation for Souma) ※※Dono is an archaic way to address others, especially someone older or of higher status
※ Shinobu often uses 拙者(せっしゃ) to refer to himself, this is a very samurai way of addressing oneself. It gives the impression that he is putting himself in a lower position than the listener. When he uses this, it will be italicized.
※Souma refers to himself 我(われ), which is a formal, old way of calling oneself. Doesn't lower his own status though. ※※Souma refers to Keito with his last name, as he respects Keito as a unit leader.
※Kouhai refers to those that are younger than you, or in a lower grade (think Freshmen, Sophomores, Juniors...in relation to Seniors). This relationship is extremely important in Japanese culture. Seniors are supposed to take very good care of their kouhai and kouhai respect their Senpais very much. Approval from Senpai is sought after
※In Japanese, "poster" is a word taken from English. Souma being from the Samurai era, quotes words that from foreign origin, or newer words, these words will be italicized
※Referring to Ryuseitai's captain, Chiaki.
※Souma is referring to both Akatsuki's group leader, Keito, and Ryuseitai's Chiaki. Lords in reference to unit leaders.
※specifically Buddha/ Shakyamuni is watching. In Buddhism, kharma plays a big role in human life, if you do bad things, bad things will happen to you. This is just a casual saying, but reflects Souma's character's era.
